Happy New Year!!! And welcome to the Wasted Talent Studio Blog - a place to share not only my artwork, but also the adventures and experiences that inspire it. My wish is to encourage others to stop wasting their time and talents and instead use them to enrich their lives.
The Wasted Talent Story….
Have you ever been asked a question that continues to echo back to you? “What are you doing here wasting your talent!?” I was asked this by employers when I mentioned I was an artist and showed them examples of my artwork. Then one day I created a self portrait using the leftover paint from my palette. As I was self critiquing and trying to come up with a title, that question popped back in my head and boom - ‘Wasted Talent’ was born. Today when people hear the name of my business they chuckle and ask where it came from, and I am always happy to tell that story.
Wasted Talent is no longer a “me,” it is a “we.” The other person with me in this adventure is my beautiful love, Jessica. I have her to thank for getting me back on track and no longer wasting time or talent. She has helped me see old things differently with new eyes and has introduced me to subject matters that I wouldn’t have considered before.
With each new adventure we take (by foot, paddleboard, bicycle, or otherwise), we hope to share our experiences through maps, photographs, notes, and field drawings which may inspire paintings. Our goal is to always leave the places we visit in better shape than we found them. We document the amount of trash we pick up, and some of that trash might even turn into art! Here, you will also be able to follow painting and sketch progress.
I’ll end this intro to the New Year and first Blog entry with a quote that I found over the holidays. It best sums up what this blog and life should be about:
“IF YOU ARE NOT DOING WHAT YOU LOVE, YOU ARE WASTING YOUR TIME!!!”
Cheers to you all,
